The following areas are shown as permanent exhibitions in the Museum of Transport in the Johanneum:

Rail
Road Traffic
Aviation
Shipping

In addition, there are special exhibitions, a bobby-car traffic garden, experiment and children’s areas and a model railway.

The Dresden Transport Museum currently owns 105 different rail vehicles, of which only eight are exhibited in the Johanneum, including Germany’s supposedly oldest completely preserved MULDENTHAL steam locomotive from 1861, a replica of the first working German steam locomotive Saxonia and the court salon car 447 of Princess Mathilde of Saxony from 1885. A large proportion of the vehicles are in depots or are on loan from associations.
