Surrounding these large displays are walls of photographs, Smokejumper and Parachutes  Artifacts, clothing and aircraft models that commemorate this golden age of flight.

The Museum of Mountain Flying‘s collection features several historic aircraft, including:

  • Douglas C-47A Skytrain: Notably used to drop 12 smokejumpers during the 1949 Mann Gulch fire.
  • Douglas DC-3A: Known as “Miss Montana,” this aircraft participated in the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion in Normandy.
  • Travel Air 6000: Previously owned by Johnson Flying Service, a significant operator in the region.
  • Bell 47G-3B-1 Helicopter: A model renowned for its versatility and service in various roles.

In addition to aircraft, the Museum of Mountain Flying houses hundreds of photographs and artifacts, including plane parts, clothing, Smokejumper Parachutes and interpretive displays that provide insight into the region’s aviation history.
