Stará Aerovka – Letňany Airport, Prague

Stará Aerovka is a preserved section of the original Letňany airfield, which holds a significant place in Czech aviation history. Situated in the Letňany district of Prague, this area was once a hub of aircraft manufacturing and testing, particularly during the early to mid-20th century.

The airfield dates back to the 1920s, and it became especially active during the time of Aero Vodochody, one of Czechoslovakia’s main aircraft producers. The name “Aerovka” is derived from the Aero company, and “Stará” means “old,” referencing the historic portion of the airfield.

Current Use and Attractions

Today, Stará Aerovka is a combination of:

  • Aviation museums and exhibits
  • Restored historic hangars and buildings
  • Home to vintage aircraft collections
  • Occasionally used for airshows, aviation events, and film shoots

The area has become a cultural and technical heritage site, showcasing Czech aviation history and preserving aircraft from various eras, including World War II and the Cold War.
