Avro Lancaster B.1 R5868/PO-S 467 Sqn. RAF
Built by Metropolitan-Vickers in Manchester under license from A. V. Roe Ltd. and delivered on 29 June 1942 to No. 83 Squadron RAF at Scampton, coded OL-Q. First mission flown against Wilhelmshaven at night 08/09 July 1942. In September 1943 was transferred to No. 467 Squadron at RAF Bottesford, coded PO-S. As mission tally of this Lancaster approached the 100 mark, was on interests of press the nude painting replaced by Herman Goering’s vain boast “No enemy plane will fly over the Reich Territory”. The last 137th mission flew on 23 April 1945 over Flensburg. Then was retired from service and moved to RAF Wroughton and later to Scampton. | Rob Vogelaar
